Frequently Asked Questions FAQs
Yvonne Durand, Career Coach & HR Consultant for Senior Professionals at Yvolve LLC
What does a career coach do?
A career coach helps you gain clarity about your goals, values, and next steps so you can make confident career decisions. In my work, coaching is not about pushing you to change faster or fixing you. It is about walking alongside you as you think, decide, and move through your career and leadership journey.
My role is to guide you through reflection and strategy, helping you understand what truly fulfills you and how to create a career that aligns with your strengths, values, and ambitions. Clients often tell me they value having a trusted thinking partner and a space where they can speak openly, explore options, and turn insight into grounded action. Unlike generic career advice, my coaching blends strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and ongoing support to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
Who do you work with?
I work with professionals in senior-level positions who feel stuck, undervalued, or unsure about their next move. Many of my clients have built impressive careers on paper but feel disconnected or unfulfilled inside. Others are not in crisis, but sense that they want more clarity, ease, or alignment as they continue growing in their roles.
They’re ready to reconnect with what matters, rebuild confidence, and move forward with purpose with experienced support at their side.
What types of challenges do your clients usually bring to coaching?
Typical challenges include:
• Feeling lost or unmotivated despite external success
• Navigating complex workplace dynamics or leadership transitions
• Wanting to find more balance and joy in their career
• Rebuilding confidence after burnout or change
• Redefining success in midlife or after major transitions
Some clients come to clarify their direction, others to find their voice or prepare for new opportunities. Many simply want a confidential space to think things through with someone who understands leadership and complexity.
In every case, the goal is the same: to feel successful and balanced on the inside, not just look successful on the outside.
How do coaching, mentoring, and HR consulting differ in your work?
Coaching focuses on clarity, self-reflection, and intentional decision-making. Rather than giving you ready-made answers, I help you uncover your own, guided by your values, goals, and context. My role is to support your thinking and help you translate insight into action over time.
Mentoring is typically advice-driven and based on someone sharing their own path. While I draw on experience when helpful, my coaching does not position me as the one with the answers.
HR consulting is more problem-focused. If you are facing a specific challenge such as a leadership situation, organizational decision, performance topic, or sensitive people issue, I can step into a more advisory role and share practical guidance based on my 20+ years of global HR leadership experience.
Many clients value the combination. We may start in coaching mode and intentionally shift into consulting when concrete expertise is useful. We always agree together on what best serves your situation.
What is your coaching style?
My clients often describe my style as warm, direct, and deeply insightful. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help you connect the dots so the fuzzy picture becomes clear.
I create a non-judgmental environment where you can think out loud, explore doubts, and be honest about what is really going on.
My approach combines strategic thinking with empathy. It is both reflective and action-oriented. You’ll leave each session with clarity and concrete next steps.
Can I come with a specific problem to solve, not just a general career question?
Yes, absolutely.
Many clients come with a very concrete situation: a difficult leadership dynamic, a conflict at work, a transition or relocation, or a moment where something feels stuck.
You don’t need a big career question to start. We work with what is present right now, and often discover that clarity in one area creates momentum in others.
What do clients typically learn or develop through coaching with you?
While every journey is different, many clients develop the ability to:
• Think more clearly and calmly in complex situations
• Make decisions with greater confidence and self-trust
• Communicate more intentionally and authentically
• Set boundaries that support both performance and well-being
• Navigate change with more perspective and less inner pressure
• Clarify priorities and translate values into concrete action
• Recognize energy drainers and energy gainers
Beyond insight, clients often describe developing a stronger inner compass that helps them navigate uncertainty with more steadiness.
What kind of results can I expect?
Every client’s journey is unique, but many experience outcomes such as:
• Greater clarity about direction and next steps
• Renewed confidence and leadership presence
• More grounded and intentional decision-making
• Stronger alignment between values and professional choices
• A greater sense of balance, ease, and purpose in daily life
• Clear actions that feel realistic and sustainable
Many clients say that having ongoing support makes the journey feel lighter, more focused, and less overwhelming.
What makes your coaching particularly valuable for senior leaders?
Experienced professionals often carry responsibility, complexity, and expectations with little space to process them openly.
My clients value working with someone who understands leadership realities, organizational dynamics, and the emotional weight that can come with senior roles.
Coaching offers a space where you don’t have to perform or have all the answers. You can reflect, question, and decide with support that is both grounded and strategic.
How does the coaching process work?
Coaching begins with a free chemistry call, where we ensure that we’re the right fit. Trust and connection are essential, as coaching works best when you feel supported and understood.
From there, clients usually choose between:
• The Clarity Catalyst (3 sessions, focused and solution-oriented)
• The Transformation Track (6 sessions, for deeper exploration and change)
• The Insight Track (10 sessions, for long-term support and partnership)
Each session lasts 60 minutes and takes place online. Between sessions, you can reach out via Voxer for quick support, allowing coaching to extend into real-life moments and decisions.
Together, we explore your situation, define priorities, and create a way forward that feels clear and achievable.
Do I need to know my exact goal before starting coaching?
Not at all. Many clients start with uncertainty. That’s often the reason they come.
You don’t need a clear goal. You only need openness to explore, and coaching provides the structure and support to help clarity emerge.
What if I’m successful on paper but still unhappy?
That’s more common than people realize.
You can appear successful to others and still feel disconnected or drained. Coaching helps you understand what feels misaligned and why, so you can navigate your next chapter with more clarity, ease, and intention.
Do you offer one-off coaching sessions?
No. Sustainable progress requires reflection, action, and integration over time. My coaching is intentionally designed as a journey rather than a single moment.
That said, if you need practical HR consulting support for a specific issue (e.g. salary negotiation, performance review preparation), a single consulting session can make sense. We can explore together what best supports you.
Can you help me with my resume or interviews?
Yes. Resume reviews are available as a separate service via my website.
I also offer an online course, “How You Nail Your Job Interview.” Both services are standalone and can be complemented with coaching when helpful.
Do you only work with women?
While many of my clients are women in leadership, I coach both women and men. What matters most is your openness to reflection and growth.
My approach is inclusive and rooted in empathy, respect, and curiosity.
Do you work with clients outside Europe?
Yes. My coaching is 100% virtual, and I work with clients worldwide. All you need is a quiet space and WIFI to connect.
I’m in HR myself. Can I still work with you?
Absolutely. As a former HR executive, I understand the complexity of balancing people, politics, and performance.
Many HR leaders work with me because they value a confidential, external sounding board who understands their world deeply.
How do you support organizations and companies?
I support organizations through individual coaching, leadership support, and targeted HR consulting.
This can include coaching leaders through transitions or relocations, confidential sparring for senior professionals, supporting HR leaders, and facilitating reflection spaces around leadership, culture, or change.
My work with organizations is grounded in real world HR leadership experience across continents. I understand business pressures, people dynamics, and the complexity leaders face behind the scenes. I’m particularly passionate about people development, women’s empowerment, intercultural collaboration, and strategic HR challenges.
Engagements are tailored and can range from individual coaching to workshops or leadership conversations, depending on the need.
Is coaching with you confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is fundamental to my work.
Everything shared in coaching stays between us, unless we explicitly agree otherwise.
How soon can I start?
You can book a free chemistry call at any time via my calendar: https://calendly.com/yvonnedurand4u/coaching.
We’ll discuss your goals, timeline, and the next steps toward creating a fulfilling and joyful career.
What if I’m not sure coaching can help?
That’s completely fine. The chemistry call is the perfect space to explore your questions. Many clients discover that what they needed was not more information, but support, perspective, and a clearer way forward.
What languages do you coach in?
I coach in English and German, depending on your preference. Most sessions are conducted in English since my clients are based around the world.
What are your qualifications?
I hold a Professional Coaching Mastery Certification accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and have over 20 years of international HR leadership experience. My background includes senior roles in Switzerland, the US, and Singapore, leading diverse and global teams.
How can I contact you?
You can reach me directly via yvonne@yvolve.me or through my website www.yvolve.me.
You can also connect with me on LinkedIn for insights and articles about career growth, leadership, and emotional well-being.
How do I know if I’m ready for coaching?
You don’t need prior coaching experience to benefit from my programs. My coaching approach is designed to meet you exactly where you are, whether you’re brand new to coaching or have worked with a coach before.
I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can explore your goals, challenges, and aspirations. If you’re ready to gain clarity, build confidence, and take intentional steps toward a more fulfilling career, you’re in the right place.
What happens if I realize I want to change careers completely. Can you help with that?
Certainly! Together, we’ll see what you want, what you bring with you, and what is needed for your new role. We’ll work out an action plan and tackle any potential challenges together.
Do you offer workshops or corporate coaching for teams?
Yes, for companies I do so if required. I was leading many employee sessions as HR leader and there’s probably no people topic I haven’t had discussed in group settings. Happy to explore further, please contact me on yvonne@yvolve.me.
What if my company wants to pay for coaching?
That’s even better and I’m happy to know your company supports your professional journey and personal growth. Let’s discuss what they require and I’m happy to arrange accordingly.
What if I start coaching and realize I want to continue after the package ends?
Of course, you can continue! :)
Many of my clients appreciate the support, clarity, and momentum that comes with our partnership and extend our work together. It naturally transforms into the Insight Track program (or let’s discuss what fits best to your journey).
